LCCM Du-Molishes Hunger with Duathlon

LCCM hosted its First Annual Duathlon on Saturday, May 1, 2010. Similar to a triathlon, competitors ran 5K, biked 14 miles, and finished with another 5K run. The event was sanctioned by USA Triathlon and began and ended at Cedar Crest High School. We were very pleased with the turnout for this inaugural event as 70 women and 112 men, for a total of 182 athletes, ranging in age from 12 to 70, registered to compete. Awards were given to the competitors with the best time in eleven different age groups for both the men and women.

Daryl Weaver of Lititz came in first for the men (and first overall) with a time of 1:09:33. Palmyra native Lindsay Zembra was first among the women with a time of 1:23:50. Our very own David Funk, (LCCM Board Treasurer and race director) finished first in his age group and fifth overall with a time of 1:17:54.

Although the competition was great and the weather was gorgeous, the real winners of this event are the families and individuals we serve on a daily basis. The NET proceeds from this event exceeded our expectations by surpassing the $8,000 mark ($8,890 to be exact).

Each competitor received a T-shirt that was designed by Nat Miller, a seventh grade student of Lebanon Middle School. Students from the LMS Art Club submitted 30 different designs and Nat’s design depicting a cartoon rendering of himself running over the event’s theme, “Du-Molish Hunger”, was chosen.

We would also like to thank the many volunteers that protected our competitors throughout the run and bike portions of the race, as well as those that helped setup and tear down. Thanks also to the volunteers that played a part during the event, and thanks to those that competed. We also thank God for his blessings and protection of all involved.
